Let Me Be The One The Carpenters

Some sleepless night if you should find yourself alone

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to
    Let me be the one

To set things right
When this whole world’s turned upside down
   Chorus

For love and understanding, to find a quiet place
For silent understanding, a loving touch
Come to me when things go wrong
And there’s no love to light the way
  Chorus

Note: “Was written by the great writing team of Roger Nichols and Paul Williams who produced “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “I Won’t Last A Day Without You” and “Rainy Days and Mondays,” among others.  “Let Me Be The One” was submitted to me in a stack of “dubs” from A&M publishing company.  I listened through the stack and discarded all but two, a great two.  One was “Let Me Be The One,” the other was “Rainy Days and Mondays”.  We agonized between “Superstar” and :”Let Me Be The One”.  I love them both and ultimately chose “Superstar,” but “Let Me Be The One” remains on of my favorites – Richard Carpenters
