Del Shannon (#1 in 1961), Elvis Presley, Bonnie Raitt, Gary Allen

As I walk along I wonder what went wrong
With our love, a love that was so strong
And as still walk on I think of the things we've done
Together while our hearts were young

I'm a walking in the rain, tears are falling and I feel a pain
Wishing you were here by me to end this misery
And I wonder, I wo wo wo wo wonder
Why, why why why why why she (you) ran away
And I wonder where she (you) will stay
My little runaway, a run run run run runaway

Charles Westover took the stage name Del Shannon. The solo is performed on Musitron, a small synthesizer-like keyboard. It was recorded in Am and sped up to Bb minor after the fact. In 1962, Lawrence Welk performed an instrumental cover of the song. Elvis Presley performed it live in 1969 and introduced Del Shannon in the audience. Other covers include Bonnie Raitt, The Travelling Wilburys and Me First and the Gimme Gimme's.
