Gigi   Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe,  Academy Award Best Song 1958

After the success of the film Gigi, Lerner practically dragged Loewe into a Rolls Royce dealership. It seems that
Lerner had just seen a 1958 Rolls Royce convertable in Paris and just had to have it. They rushed in and grabbed the salesman.
Lerner picked out one in blue and insisted that Fritz Loewe order one as well. Loewe, with a shrug, chose one in battleship grey.
"And how will you be paying for these," the salesman asked. "Mr. Loewe and I will be paying cash," Lerner said as he reached for
his checkbook. To which Fritz Loewe grabbed his arm and said "I'll get this, you paid for lunch."

Gigi
Gigi . . . am I a fool without a mind
or have I merely been to blind to realize?
Oh Gigi . . . why you've been growin' up
before my very eyes!

Gigi . . . you're not at all the funny
awkward little girl I knew
Oh no, overnight there's been a breathless
change in you!

Gigi . . . why you were tremblin' on the brink
was I out yonder somewhere blinkin' at a star?
Oh Gigi . . . have I been standin' up to close
or back too far?

When did your sparkle turn to fire
and your warmth become desire?
Oh, what miracle
has made you the way you are?
